3 Active Ingredients To Look For In a High Quality Feed Balancer
In today's article I would like to talk with you about equine feed balancers. Nowadays, as a horse owner, you can literally choose from hundreds if not thousands of products. For example, I just did a simple search for "horse supplements" on Amazon and I now have an opportunity to choose from 2,114 product listings.
There are hundreds of equine calmers, joint, hoof and coatshine supplements and out of all of these different types of equine supplements, only feed balancers are proven and tested by time.
Feed balancers have been around for decades and they are used by millions of horse owners worldwide. The fact is that quite a lot of horses do not get as many different vitamins, nutrients and minerals from their diet and as a result of this their condition suffers and at the end of the day they do not feel and look as good as they possibly could. This is where feed balancers come into play. They are loaded with active ingredients and they are specifically formulated to help your horse look and feel great.
Now, it is important to point out that there are dozens of different types of feed balancer formulations. For example there are feed balancers specifically formulated for veteran horses, there are feed balancers for horses that are involved in competitive horse riding disciplines, there are balancers for laminitic and overweight horses and there are balancers for everyday use. Each formulation uses different set of activities ingredients, but there are also some common, foundational active ingredients that all feed balancer formulations use and as a horse owner you should look for products that contain these active ingredients.
Digestive aids - You should look for equine feed balancers that contain digestive enzymes. Now, at the first glance this might sound counter intuitive, but quite a lot of horses have very sensitive digestive systems and as a horse owner you want to do whatever you possibly can to improve your horse's digestive system. This is where digestive enzymes come into play. They will help you to improve the efficiency of your horse's digestive system by increasing forage digestibility, which in effect will increase nutrient uptake.
Oils - If you want your horse to look great then you should look for products that contain oils such as soya and linseed oil. It has been proven that such oils, in combination with zinc, promote the development of a healthy skin and glossy coat.
Minerals - If you are involved in competitive horse riding disciplines or if your horse's workload is relatively high, you should look for products that contain increased levels of iron and copper. Both iron and copper are known as blood building minerals. They increase the number of red blood cells within the blood which in effect increase oxygen transportation. This means that more oxygen is being transported into the working muscles which in effect allows the horse to work harder for longer.

Questions from dog owners...
Today's article is different.
Over the past several months I've noticed that I started to received quite a lot of emails asking me questions about dogs and dog care. All of these questions came from my regular readers, horse owners, and I've realized that quite a lot of horse owners also own dogs.
Most of these questions were related to one of the following conditions: itching, runny stools, colitis, weight problems and I've decided that in my future (and today's post) I will tackle some of the mentioned problems and I'll share with you what I know about them.
In today's post I would like to talk with you about colitis in dogs. Colitis affects dogs all ages, breeds and sizes and if you are a horse owner you should also know that colitis is also very common among horses too.
Anyway.
Colitis in simple terms is inflammation of the colon and quite of often is associated with diarrhea. Now, I'm not talking about occasional runny stools or anything else like that. Dogs that suffer from colitis have very severe cases of diarrhea and quite often you will notice signs of blood or mucus in it.
Now if you want to learn what causes colitis in dogs I highly recommend you to have a look at the following article: http://horsefriendly.weebly.com/1/post/2013/08/the-primary-causes-of-colitis-in-dogs.html
