What horse supplements you should be using in the summer?

Over the past four weeks I have received quite a lot of questions from people who wanted to know about what are the best horse supplements to give in summer. People wanted to know which feed balancers should they buy and what are some other, less known, supplements that I would recommend.

First of all, when the weather gets warmer and the sun is out, the grazing conditions improve dramatically and our horses tend to spent quite a lot of time outside, grazing out in the fields, eating fresh grass. You see, grazing conditions are not perfect all year round and when they aren't you should think about supplementing your horse's diet with a horse feed balancer. When the grazing conditions are perfect, there is no real need for a feed balancer if you are not involved in competitive horse riding disciplines. Why? You see, when the grazing conditions are good our horses tend to get most of the nutrients that they need from the grass that they eat.

Some of you might say that this is nonsense and it does not make sense. Well, from one point of view I would agree, because I'm a strong believer in horse supplements, but from another point of view horses survived just fine for thousands of years without human-invented-horse-supplements.

Now, one type of supplement that you should seriously look into is garlic supplements. The fact is that once the weather gets warm flies, ticks, mosquitoes and other aggressive insects start attacking our horses and their bites can cause lumps and bumps appear all over horse's body. By supplementing your horse's diet with a garlic supplement, your horse will start producing a natural odor that will keep flies and other aggressive insects at bay.
