The Pros and Cons of Equine Supplements

In this article I would like to share with you some information and arguments for and against the use of equine supplements. If you have been riding horses for some time and if you have been a member of equestrian community, you have probably noticed how many different supplements there are out there. From horse feed balancers and join supplements, to garlic supplements and calmers...

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of different types of equine supplements that you can buy today and in today's article I would like to share with you some arguments for and against the use of horse supplements.

Pros of horse supplements

  • Equine supplements such as feed balancers can improve your horse's performance. Some feed balancers contain blood building ingredients such as copper and iron. These minerals increase the number of red blood cells which in effect improve oxygen transportation around the body. This is particularly important for those horses that are involved in competitive horse riding disciplines such as show jumping or horse racing.
  • Joint supplements can reduce the risk of joint disease or injury. Most popular joint supplements in the market contain active ingredients such as Glucosamine and MSM and these are proven to provide the joint with all of the materials that are need to maintain strong and healthy joints.
  • Equine such as horse calmers can improve performance. Quite a lot of horse riders are involved in competitive horse riding disciplines such as dressage, eventing or show jumping and when it comes to competing, quite a lot of horses tend to get spooky and stressful. As we all know, stress can negatively affect the performance and this is where horse calmers come into play.
Cons of horse supplements

There isn't much that I could say against horse supplements other than the fact that they can end up costing quite a lot of money.
